Tips on Creating a Good Creepypasta Character; the Short Guide
The Tumblr Post version
So I was asked, anonymously, on my Creepypasta cosplay/ask blog, Does the mun have any tips or advice on how to make a good believable creepy pasta OC that people will like and not hate on?

Well here goes;

Okay let me start off by saying it doesn’t matter how good your character is, people are gonna be dicks and hate on them. Just how the internet is, you’ll get some hate sooner or later. It’s better off if it’s later, because then you know for sure people actually like your character/story/whatever. I get some still from time to time about my OC Razorback (Char ref and Story for those interested.)

Also, don’t create a character and then make a story for them, that doesn’t always turn out right. Sometimes it does, but not always. Try coming up with an idea for a horror/creepy story and creating characters for that.

Also, don’t rush a story, never do. I see people who make an OC but then write a story for them and the story has been rushed, doesn’t flow well and its not creepy at all. The only reason those characters are popular sometimes is because others think that they are “attractive” since shipping and sexual content has sadly become the main focus.

Before I start ranting again, I made a huge journal about this fandom on DeviantART, you can read it here.

Anyhow, back to advice.

Put thought into it, trust me, it shows if you’ve put thought and effort into writing. Too many people don’t, and then somehow get praise.

And my biggest piece of advice is work off what scares you, or a lot of people. Play with fears. Do research on fears, find out what makes people tick. Nowadays, everyone thinks that blood and gore is the only kind of horror, which isn’t true. Psychological horror is a heckuva lot worse, trust me. I watch a horror film, I’m sitting there bored as hell because it’s the same old thing. After the film, or sometimes even partway through, I’m falling asleep and I sleep well. If it’s psychological then I’m actually scared.

So yeah, recap: Make a character for a story, don’t rush it, put thought and effort, do your research (especially with mental and/or physical disorders, that’s a rant for another day) and play with fears.

Hoping all goes well for you!

(If anyone wants to share this post actually, go ahead, just credit/quote me if it’s on another site, reblog if its on tumblr.)

Figured I'd share this on deviantART because who knows, it might help someone on here too.

You're going to LOVE The Presence. (I'm not being sarcastic.)
